Ruth C. (Clarkson) Brown

Mrs. Ruth C. Brown formerly of Sharon passed away on Sunday January 14, 2018 at her home in Winchester, Virginia at the age of 90.

Mrs. Brown was the wife of the late Dr. Matthew G. Brown, a family physician in Sharon for 47 years. She dedicated herself to him and their four children with great love and joy.

Ruth Charlotte Clarkson was born September 3, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Russell and Bertha Clarkson. She graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham University. In 1953, she married the boy next door, and they moved to Sharon to start his medical practice and their family.

Mrs. Brown was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon and sang in the choir. She volunteered for the League of Women Voters and the Mercer County Medical Society Auxiliary and belonged to the College Club. She loved music, literature, bridge, travels to Europe, and so many people in the Sharon community.

She will be much missed by daughter Alison Brown Cerier and son-in-law Edward Cerier, Minneapolis, Minn.; son Stephen George Brown, Sharon; daughter Lisa Brown Shank and son-in-law Peter Shank, Boylston, Mass.; and daughter Julie Brown Shanabrook and son-in-law Dr. Kevin Shanabrook, Winchester. She delighted in her grandchildren: Alexander and Lee Cerier, Ian and Juliana Shank, and Emma and Clara Shanabrook. She had a dear sister, Mary Roth of Pittsburgh, and a brother, the late Russell Clarkson, Jr.

Friends may call on Friday January 26, 2018 at the Sample-O'Donnell Funeral Home 555 E. State Street Sharon, PA from 4-7:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held in the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, 600 East State Street, Sharon, PA at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 27, 2018.

Contributions may be made in her name to the memorial fund of First Presbyterian Church, 600 E. State St., Sharon, Pennsylvania.
