Obituary

BROOKFIELD — Edward L. Morris, age 64, of Brookfield, OH, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, August 3, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Warren following a brave battle with cancer. Ed was a remarkably generous and giving man who will be deeply missed by his wife, sisters, extended family, and many dear friends.

Ed was born in Sharon General Hospital on June 22, 1962, to Sandra L. (Patterson) Morris and the late James W. Morris. Raised in Masury, OH, he was active in community and high school football. He was also a dedicated Boy Scout, successfully reaching the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduating from the Trumbull Career and Technical Center in 1980, Ed honorably served his country in the United States Navy for three years. Following his military service, he earned his CDL through TDDS Technical Institute. Ed went on to spend more than 40 years as a proud professional truck driver for several companies—including Werner Enterprises, Nick Strimbu Inc., Overnite Transportation, and Spartan Specialty Services—prior to his retirement due to illness.

An avid racing fan, Ed loved everything automotive. He followed NASCAR, IndyCar, and NHRA, and while he enjoyed watching events on TV, nothing beat the excitement of being there in person. Over the years, he made frequent trips to Summit Motorsports Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ed also loved listening to all types of music, especially at live concerts. Above all, he held a special place in his heart for animals. Together with his wife, Sue, he supported wildlife conservation by adopting Emma, a barred owl through the Birds in Flight Sanctuary in Canfield, and Loki, an Asian leopard cat through the Center for Animal Research and Education in Bridgeport, Texas.

Ed is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Susan L. (Turlij) Morris, whom he married on October 5, 2008; his mother, Sandra Morris of Champion, OH; two sisters, Roberta (Darwin) Boyd of Champion, OH, and Christine Morris of Akron, OH; his father-in-law, Robert Turlij of Linesville, PA; his sister-in-law, Stephanie Turlij of Harmonsburg, PA; his nephews, Jonathan (Emily) Boyd, Jacob Boyd (and fiancée Maddie), Joshua Boyd, and Shawn (Katie) Udell; and his niece, Keri (Corbin) Hargenrater. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Morris.

Arrangements are being handled by the Sample-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 555 East State Street, Sharon, PA. A celebration to honor Ed’s life is currently being planned, with details to be announced once finalized.
