SANDY LAKE – Harry R. “Skip” Sample, 72, passed away November 19, 2025 at 11:15AM in his residence after a courageous battle against cancer.

He was born August 4, 1953 in Sharon to Harry W. & Elaine (Hooper) Sample. He graduated in 1971 from Hickory High School and attended Youngstown state University.

Harry’s work career spanned over 50 years starting as a stock boy at J.C. Pennys and ending with over 30 years with Yourga Trucking as a Traffic Manager before his retirement in 2021.

He married his high school sweetheart Jean Gardner on June 22, 1974 and enjoyed fifty-five years together, fifty-one married.

Following his sons sports was his greatest joy. He was president of the Mercer Little League for many years and attended every wrestling match and swim meet through high school and college. When grandchildren arrived, he embraced the role of Grampy and attended dance recitals, volleyball matches, choir and band concerts and musicals. They were the light in his life.

Harry was a life member of the Sharon Elks Lodge #103 for 52 years, being exalted ruler three times.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Jean, sons Jason (Christy), Jeremy (Aimee), grandchildren Brayden, Riley, Raegan, and Jayden, brother Jim (Mary), nieces Carrie (John) Wagner, Amy Phythyon, Brooke Sample (Richard Quinn), nephews Shawn Phythyon, Brent and Drew (Pam) Godfrey , and sister-in-law Sharon Godfrey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl Phython (Barry) and his in-laws JC and Becky Gardner.

A celebration of his life will take place at the Sharon Elks Lodge #103 260 E. Connelly, Blvd, Sharon, PA on Saturday December 13, 2025 from 1:00-4:00PM.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Sharon Elks Lodge #103 Home Service Program or the Elks Scholarship Fund.
