Obituary

JACKSON CENTER, PA-Richard F. Kish, 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Richard was born on October 3, 1932, and lived a long and dedicated life marked by service to his country, his community, and his family. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy from January 1951 to November 1954 during the Korean War, where he was stationed aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, Richard continued his commitment to public service by joining the Youngstown Police Department in 1960. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served the community with integrity and dedication until his retirement in 1985.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara (Matyas) Kish, who passed away in 2019. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage, a deep love of animals, and owned and operated two businesses, Briarhaven Kennels and Laki Cattery.

He is survived by his three children: Richard (Elaine) Kish, Rachelle Kershner, and Robert Kish. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, Heather (Rich) Swincicki and Melissa (Shawn) Rentz. Richard was blessed with six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love for his family. His legacy of service and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family will hold a private memorial ceremony to honor Richard’s life at a later date. They appreciate the support, prayers, and understanding of friends and loved ones during this time as they gather to remember him in a more personal setting.

Arrangements provided by Sample-O'Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State Street Sharon, PA 16146.
