HERMITAGE-Robert Kenneth Sanford, affectionately known as “Old Bob”, was born on August 8, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was eighty-three years old..
He passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025 in Hermitage, Pennsylvania with two of his daughters at his side.
He leaves behind many fond memories.
He loved being called “Old Bob” since his days as a steelworker at Mercer Alloys when, although only in his thirties, he was the oldest man on the crew and was fondly deemed “the old man”. Old Bob began driving an 18-wheeler later in life and took great pride in logging millions of miles behind the wheel while making friends along the way. He loved joking around with family and friends and never missed an opportunity to talk about how proud he was of his six daughters. He enjoyed many hobbies, particularly crossword puzzles, playing cards, fishing, listening to Elvis Presley, and watching his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by his six daughters, Sheilla Collins (John), Robin Engel (Paul), Korena Weichel (Bo), Lisa Rudge, Shirley Barrett, and Lynn Kresge; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a special friend, Betty Cozad; two sisters, Katherine Gibbs and Linda Lewis (Jerry); and two brothers, Clarence Sanford and Tom Sanford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sanford, Bertha Anderson Sanford-Coast; two sisters, Alice Sanford and Joann Coast; and three brothers, Raymond Sanford, Terry Sanford, and Fred Coast.
A private family gathering will be held at Sample-O’Donnell Funeral Home 555 East State Street Sharon, PA on Monday morning July 7, 2025. A public memorial service will follow in the afternoon at Shenango Reservoir, one of his favorite places to fish.
