Samuel G. Darby, 87 of Hermitage, PA passed away at the family home he himself built on South Darby Road Thursday evening October 1, 2015 surrounded by his devoted and loving family following a short illness.
He was born at his parents home in Hickory Twp. on Sunday January 15, 1928. Samuel was a 1948 graduate of Hickory High School and would go on to marry his sweetheart the former Lois A. Jamieson on June 9, 1951. Together they would share more than forty-eight years of marriage and be blessed with three sons and three daughters.
A logger by trade, Samuel had worked for Blaney Lumber in Hartford, Ohio for thirty-seven years before his retirement in 1992. He was an avid outdoorsman and held Lifetime Pennsylvania licenses for both hunting and fishing. He had attended Neshannock Alliance Church, was a Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association, and had always enjoyed gardening and farming as well as visiting his family camp in Pigeon, PA.
He is survived by his sons Samuel L. Darby and his wife Susan, Thomas W. Darby and his wife Barbara, John W. Darby and his wife Joni; daughters Marie L. Darby, Beverly J. Boardman and her husband Donald, Donna L. McCoy and her husband Clifford; his brother Leonard H. Darby and his wife Betty all of Hermitage, PA; as well as his beloved fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois on December 23, 1999, his brothers Clifford and William Darby, and by his son-in-law Neil Snyder.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday evening October 5, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Sample- O'Donnell Funeral Home at 555 East State Street on the corner of Oakland Avenue in Sharon, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning beginning at 11:00 AM at the Neshannock Alliance Church, 3109 South Keel Ridge Rd, West Middlesex, PA 16159 with Pastor Jeff Smith Officiating. Friends may also call beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the services at the church.
Burial will take place at Morefield Cemetery in Hermitage, PA.
