William E. Himes, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening February 10, 2016 in the hospital of Sharon Regional following a period of declining health. He was ninety-three years old.
Bill was born in Johnstown, PA on April 2, 1922 the only child of Robert E. and Mary R. (Hershberger) Himes.
He was a 1940 graduate of Johnstown High School and would go on to serve Our Country in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He received an honorable discharge in 1946 and his decorations and citations included the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon his return he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he would graduate in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bill moved to Sharon in 1952 and found work at the former Westinghouse Corp. in Sharon where he would retire from the Powers Sales Department with thirty-one years of dedicated service. He was a member of Phi Tau Sigma and Sigma Tau professional engineering societies.
Bill was a longtime devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon for more than sixty-four years. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Shenango Valley Lodge #810, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley in New Castle, Sir Knight Mt. Calvary Commander Knights Templar, Syria Temple of the Shrine in Pittsburgh, Legion of Honor in both Consistory and Commandry, the American Legion Post #160 in Farrell, V.F.W. Post #6166 in Hermitage, and the B.P.O.E. #103 in Sharon.
He will be sadly missed by his sons Gregory and his wife Pamela Himes of Bellingham, WA, Dr. Douglas D. and his wife Elizabeth W. Himes of Nashville, TN; and by his four grandchildren Julie, Carlton, Christopher, and Andrew.
Mr. Himes was preceded in death by parents and his first wife Jane Ann (Dupin) Himes, and by his second wife Roberta June Egelsky Himes.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening February 16, 2015 from 5-7:00PM at the Sample- O'Donnell Funeral Home at 555 East State Street in Sharon, PA. A Masonic Lodge Service will begin at 6:45PM provided by Free and Accepted Masons Shenagno Valley Lodge #810.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Wednesday morning beginning at 11:00AM at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Glenn M. Hink officiating.
Burial will take place at America’s Cemetery in Hermitage.
Per Bill’s request contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon Memorial Fund 600 E State Street, Sharon, PA 16146 in his honor.
